But you are underestimating the psychological side of football. Having possession against Colchester is an entirely different thing to having possession against Chelsea. It is totally understandable and is to be expected that inferior footballers "panic" when up against world class players. |

What interests me is that currently Reading, who finished comfortably in the top half of the table last season, have gone to Old Trafford and have parked 10 men behind the ball. They've made absolutely no attempt to attack United nor to take more than three men out of their own half at any time. Now, on these boards in the past Reading have been held up as some bastion of the sort of football we should be playing. Had we gone to Chelsea and parked the bus people would be all over Bruce. We went to Chelsea and tried to play. We created, admittedly not many, but a few chances and we scored twice. Our possession was not perfect, but our midfield was only slightly more wasteful than that of the home side, and their midfield cost an awful lot more to put together, and had an awful lot more experience in this league. Wright-Phillips was really the difference, he was exceptional. Queudrue wasn't given a great deal of help by the left midfielder and he struggled as a result. Lampard was non-existent due to the constant pressure of Muamba, and although Nafti wasn't great in possession he was breaking up attacks and constantly causing the Chelsea midfield trouble when they were attacking. Had we lost 3-2 to a midtable side in the same manner, or to one of the teams expected to be towards the bottom end of the table, then maybe todays performance would be one for concern, but against that team, with their record, it cannot be seen as anything but an interesting exercise. Wednesday night will be a much more reliable indicator of where our fortunes lie for the next 9 months. |

some of the criticism aimed at the players is absolutley shocking. we are a newly promoted club with a lot of new players and gave chelsea a good run for there money. lets face it chelsea did play sopme good stuff today and can make even the worlds best look like mugs (barca 3-0 after 20 min) so it is hardly a fair refelection. personally i saw enough today to be optimistic for the season. we seem to have a more attacting mentality whilst been reasonably solid in midfield with muamba and nafti. i fear for the player on wed if this criticism of everything they do continues. confidence will drop and then it is a slippery slope. we need to cheer them on keep confidence up and hope for atleast 4 points out of next 3 games, minimum. although i find it hard to defend quedrue who seemed completely inept with some of his decisions and positional awareness, but, that said, wright-phillips was on some top form. lets just hope the 2 goals today give confidence to go and win what is, lets face it a huge game. i was very very happy with todays performance by the majority of the players, doyle and quedrue did not do as well as we know they can. this aside, what a fantastic performance, we had the millionaire's scared, chelsea conceded 11 goals at home last year, we scored two in one game. anybody that is complaigning about blues after that really needs to find something better to do with their time besides from talking bull |
